http://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/342537-trump-says-hell-let-obamacare-fail

“I think we're probably in that position where we'll let ObamaCare fail,” he told reporters in the Roosevelt Room. “We're not going to own it. I'm not going to own it. I can tell you the Republicans are not going to own it. We'll let ObamaCare fail and then the Democrats are going to come to us.”

Venting his frustration with Congress, Trump talked of how he had heard lawmakers for seven years talk about the need to repeal and replace ObamaCare.

This is his, "Read my lips", moment.

Also, Trump should have realized that Republicans were completely full of shit when they talked about repealing Obamacare.

Didn't Trump consistently say how easy health care was and how he was going to fix it? Didn't he say it was going to be cheaper and better because he had a plan?

Obama owned the recession and the Iraq / Afghanistan wars even though they started under Bush.

To trump:

Guess what asshole? If the ACA fails under your watch, and you do nothing to stop it (or even help it fail), that is on you and people will be looking no where else but you. you should know better than anyone that the president takes the blame for EVERYTHING, even when it has nothing to do with them. you saw to that personally when you blamed Obama for everything under the sun. you have blamed everyone around you for everything when you fail, but that ended the minute you became president. It is time to take responsibility, because nobody other than your followers are going to fall for your blame shifting any longer. Becoming president was the worst decision you have ever made, and it is going to cost you "bigly" in the long run.

A lot of the failure is on Trump for not presenting legislation to Congress. Letting Congress write laws like this rarely turns out well. All Trump had to do was stick to his promise not to touch Medicare/Medicaid and present legislation to Congress that did that. That would have stopped the Republicans from just HAVING to go after Medicare/Medicaid. They could have managed to repeal everything else and - candidly - Medicaid expansion is the biggest achievement of the ACA.

Well that's kind of the problem when the person technically leading your party in the office is a moron. He has no idea how to craft policy himself and nobody he's surrounded himself with, like Price, would ever craft legislation like that.

I think that health care should have got delayed until the economy recovered. Obama should have focused on securing some small victories and maybe just expanding Medicaid in the first term (presented as a response to the economic crisis and families suddenly losing income). Obama spent all of his political capital on the ACA when he wasn't really sure what he wanted it to look like and when Democrats weren't yet strong enough to get what was really needed.

Indeed. Funny how you wont see Dems blame Democratic leaders for the huge mess thats the war in iraq, despite voting for it. I am sure future Dem strategy (well current too) is to make up some lie and say Republicans made Obamacare fail. Despite no proof whatsoever.

Same lie Dems pushed in 2003; Dems had full access to same info as Bush but claimed that Bush lied to them lol.

Also Trump, telegraphing your strategy is kinda a bad move you know

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-40646625

Not a good strategy - Anthony Zurcher, BBC News, Washington

Call it Mr Trump's "Joker" option for Obamacare repeal. Do nothing, and watch the world burn. Explaining how your dastardly plan will go down seldom works for cartoon villains, however, and it may not be the best strategy for presidents either.

By telling Americans he's going to let the US healthcare system collapse in order to rally support for an eventual fix, he's essentially taking responsibility for anything bad that happens in the coming days. Despite his protestations that he won't "own" what happens next, he just stuffed the receipt in his pocket.

Premiums go up? Insurance providers pull out of state individual markets? Democrats can say it's part of the president's plan to sabotage the system. All the while Mr Trump's opponents can point to the Congressional Budget Office's findings that, without White House meddling, the insurance markets would be relatively stable.

Then again, at this point, the president has few good options. His promises to eventually work with Democrats are undermined by his pledges to defeat them at the ballot box next year. He clearly can't move forward with Republicans alone.

All that's left is to walk away and hope for the worst.

If they would have joined the Dems to fix the issues that the ACA had (that even Dems admitted - it was suppose to be a work in progress) we would be in a much better place. But because Obama did it...they just couldn't swallow their pride and allow him and Democrats a victory of this magnitude so they decided to go Nuclear and just never help and work to destroy it as fast as possible by undermining the confidence of the pools.

Now they are reaping what they've sown and blaming others....Like you.

The people of this board live in a bizarro universe.

Obamacare is collapsing. That's just a fact. Some states have no insurers competing in the open exchanges, and that number will rise next year. Other insurers are asking for double digit premium increases to cover their skyrocketing costs, and people are paying more money for less coverage.

To turn around and blame Republicans for letting the very thing fail that Democrats have adamantly defended for the 8 years, going so far as to everyone how great Obamacare is, is a pretty odd-- and losing-- proposition.

No firstly you keep calling it a failure, you need to prove it's actually a failure. You're the one making the claim, the onus is on you to actually back that up. Something more than the intellectually lazy arguments of "Look around you!" "Open your eyes!" "This one person I know..." or you're full of shit and not worth listening to.

Secondly if Republicans truly wanted to change the ACA they have indeed had all this time to think of something. They had nearly all of Obama's presidency to think of something better. Seven years. After seven years they have nothing to show for it. That's not an excuse, it's a statement of fact and extremely fucking pathetic regardless of which party you're affiliated with.

See, this is just totally untrue. Going back to 2015, we were already seeing increases (some times double digit) in premiums, due to lower enrollment rates and insurers having to cover their losses, increases in deductibles and insurers exiting the markets.

You can easily look this up.

Premiums going up, sometimes by double digits, is what had already been happening. All of the nonpartisan analysis indicates that they would have gone up even more without obamacare.

Trump promised people he would have a bill ready in 100 days. The GOP promised that.

They are now liars. And Trump's "plan" is to literally let Americans suffer because Obamacare is so bad instead of fixing it with full control of congress.

Good luck selling the public on this.

So Democrats either have to acknowledge that they were wrong on healthcare after eight years of proclaiming differently and denying what was plainly obvious to any nonpartisan (but I guess, in your world, being a "liar" for damn near a decade is okay), or they have to agree to work on a fix.

You can "blame" Republicans for failing to replace Obamacare, but Obamacare failing is the result of those people who passed it to begin with.

Not only is it false to assume anyone here thought obamacare was perfect (just better than most of what else has been proposed, but far from perfect), I pre-empted this right wing trash point as early as the second post.

      omega bahumat posted...
Didn't Trump consistently say how easy health care was and how he was going to fix it? Didn't he say it was going to be cheaper and better because he had a plan?

"Don't blame us for passing Obamacare! Blame Republicans for failing to repeal it"

There, I summed up your "argument". In higher circles, we call that shifting blame.

Sorry, pal. Democrats passed, lied about (tell me again who stated that Obamacare passed because of "the stupidity of the American voter"?) and have defended Obamacare for years. You suddenly don't get to heap the abortion that is the ACA as the fault of the party who provided no votes towards its passage. Yes Republicans should repeal it, but Democrats own the legislation and the problems with it.

Not only is it asinine to now ascribe fault to Republicans (somehow, if Obamacare magically becomes a rousing success, I doubt you'll praise Republicans), but it's pure partisanship to do so. Not unexpected for this board, but still.

Why are you always so wrong?
